When I was growing up in the 50's my foster mother, who was a college graduate, but who cleaned houses to earn a living, would set up white kids as the standard of behavior. “Whites don’t run in the house” she would say. “White kids eat all their food without complaining” “White kids don’t “ was her constant mantra.
I raise this story because based on the data - you would have to say that white kids don’t fight, harass or intimidate because only Black kids are being suspended for it. Of course, the other big question is how does a Prek-3rd grader harass and intimidate.
The other significant issue is the disparity in suspension rate for disabled children. Black Disabled Kindergartners had 39.1 times more suspensions per 100 students than White Disabled Kindergartners. Black Disabled 1st Graders had 6.1 times more suspensions per 100 students than Hispanic nondisabled 1st Graders. Multiracial Disabled 2nd Graders had 12 times more suspensions per 100 students than Hispanic nondisabled 2nd Graders. Black Disabled 3rd Graders had 8.9 times more suspensions per 100 students than White nondisabled 3rd Graders. Question: Is Dayton Public School adequately protecting the rights of Disabled children?
